What is new in Ellaris

Ellaris is built in the open and grows every week. Here is what has changed, newest first. In development

The doors open, and you can leave a mark

The Ellaris entry screen, now in open, closed-alpha access

Ellaris stepped out of the workshop and onto the open web.

  • The site is live and public at playellaris.com: browse the world, the classes and the story with nothing in the way.
  • The game itself is in closed alpha. Grab an access code from the community and step through the veil.
  • Supporter badges arrived. Ellaris is free and always fair, cosmetics and standing only, so you can leave a permanent badge on your character, worn for all of Ellaris to see, and never an edge in a fight.
  • Checkout is secure, powered by Stripe, and your badge lands on your account on its own.

Combat with weight, a world with loot

Forging a hero for the fight: the tank, the caster and the healer

The fight started to feel like the real thing, and the world began to reward it.

  • Melee now swings on weapon speed, with on‑next‑swing specials and a proper Charge that closes the gap, tuned the old‑school way.
  • Loot and gear that matter: kill, roll, equip, and rearrange your bags by hand.
  • Food and drink to sit and recover, and consumables that buff you for the road ahead.
  • Under the hood, a heavy performance pass: worlds load faster and run smoother, with a cursor that stays out of your way.

An account, a name, and a road to start on

Choosing your name as you enter Ellaris

Ellaris became something you sign into and grow, not just something you open.

  • Log in with Google, Discord or email, pick the name the world will know you by, and your heroes follow you anywhere.
  • A real starter zone: vendors to trade with, chests to crack open, quests to chase, and townsfolk dressed for their role.
  • Settings and keybinds you control, and a one‑click way to send feedback while you play.
  • The groundwork of a real product went in as well, so Ellaris stands on solid ground.

Ellaris goes live: one world, many players

A hero in the live world of Ellaris, with the HUD, minimap and chat

The world stopped being yours alone.

  • A server runs the world now, authoritative and shared, so what you see is what everyone sees, fair by design.
  • Chat the way an MMO should: say, yell, whisper, party and emote, with tabs and slash commands.
  • Inspect, trade and duel the players you meet, and climb the leaderboard.
  • For the brave, a hardcore mode: one life, real stakes, with a safety net that keeps your progress honest.

Worlds to walk, and a map to find your way

Entering the Westmark, a region of Ellaris

If every world is going to be different, it has to look and feel different too.

  • Real terrain across biomes, with water you can swim in and a sky that turns from day to dusk.
  • A hand‑drawn world map and a live minimap, so you always know where the veil has dropped you.
  • Region loading screens with their own ambient music, so arriving somewhere new feels like arriving.
  • Blueprints to stamp whole structures at once, for the worlds you build yourself.

Spells that land, quests to chase, worlds you can author

This is the week Ellaris started to feel alive.

  • Abilities now throw real spell effects: projectiles that arc and burst, tuned to each school of magic.
  • The first full questline went in, with NPCs that hand out and close quests.
  • The world filled with a small ecosystem of creatures to fight, respawning on old-school timers.
  • The world editor grew teeth: creators can now author their own abilities, items and monsters for a world, not just shape its land.

A world you can shape, an account to keep it, a name to call it

The world stopped being a tech demo and started being a place.

  • The renderer leveled up: day and night, water you can swim in, dynamic light and sky, so every world can look its part.
  • Accounts and cloud saves arrived. Log in, and your characters and the worlds you build follow you anywhere.
  • A proper character hub, and the first supporter badges.
  • And we chose our name. The project became Ellaris.

The map editor, and a world made of zones

If every world is going to be different, you have to be able to build one.

  • The map editor opened: lay out a world from above, sculpt terrain, paint zones, and drop in trees, rocks and whole prefab structures.
  • Worlds gained shape and persistence: pick a size and form, build it, and it stays saved, with autosave and export so the hours are never lost.
  • Blueprints arrived: whole structures as data you can stamp and reuse.

Day one: old-school combat, done properly

We set out to build the old-school MMORPG we always wanted, right in the browser, and started where it matters most.

  • The trinity took shape: a plate tank, a ranged caster, a support healer, each with three specs.
  • Tab-target combat on a global cooldown, real auras and buffs, an honest stat sheet, and a HUD built for it.
  • First creatures to fight, first gear to earn.

More every week. Come help shape it on Discord, or play the early build.
